Same As (跟...一样)

跟...一样 is used to express that two things are the same or equal. The basic pattern is "A 跟 B 一样," meaning "A is the same as B." For example, "他跟我一样高" (tā gēn wǒ yíyàng gāo) — "He is as tall as I am."

You can use 跟...一样 on its own to express general similarity: "这个跟那个一样" — "This one and that one are the same." Or you can add an adjective after 一样 to specify the quality being compared: "他跟我一样大" — "He is the same age as me" (literally: "the same big/old").

To negate, use 不 before 一样: "他跟我不一样" — "He and I are not the same." You can also say "A 跟 B 不一样 + Adjective" to mean "not as [adjective] as": "这个跟那个不一样贵" — "This one is not as expensive as that one." However, for "not as...as," the pattern 没有...那么 is actually more common in spoken Chinese.

和 (hé) can replace 跟 in this structure with the same meaning: "他和我一样高." 跟 is slightly more colloquial; 和 is a bit more formal. Both are perfectly correct.
