Not Only...But Also

不但...而且 is the standard way to say "not only...but also" in Chinese. The first clause states something, and the second clause adds something more — usually stronger or more impressive. For example: 他不但会说中文，而且说得很好 — "Not only can he speak Chinese, but he speaks it well."

When the subject is the same in both clauses, 不但 comes after the subject: 她不但聪明，而且很努力 (She is not only smart but also hardworking). When the subjects are different, 不但 comes before the first subject: 不但他去了，而且他妹妹也去了 (Not only did he go, but his sister went too).

而且 can sometimes be replaced by 还 in more casual speech: 他不但会做饭，还做得特别好吃 — "Not only can he cook, he cooks especially well." The meaning is the same, but 而且 sounds slightly more formal.

This pattern always builds upward — the second clause should be equal to or stronger than the first. Saying "Not only is he a CEO, but he also has a car" sounds odd because the second point is weaker. Make sure your second clause genuinely adds force or scope.
