Time Expression Placement

In English, time expressions can float around a sentence: "I went to school yesterday," "Yesterday I went to school," or even "I yesterday went to school" (though awkward). In Chinese, time expressions have two acceptable positions: at the start of the sentence, or immediately after the subject. Both positions are before the verb.

"I go to school tomorrow" can be said as "明天我去学校" (míngtiān wǒ qù xuéxiào) with the time first, or "我明天去学校" (wǒ míngtiān qù xuéxiào) with the time after the subject. Both are correct and natural. What you absolutely cannot do is put the time expression after the verb: "我去学校明天" is wrong.

When a sentence has both a time expression and a location, the typical order is: Subject + Time + Location + Verb + Object. For example, "我明天在家吃饭" (wǒ míngtiān zài jiā chī fàn, "I'll eat at home tomorrow"). Time comes first, then place, then the action. This order is very consistent in Chinese and learning it early will prevent many errors.
